Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Education "Ural State Mining University". Ural State Mining University Information on various admission conditions

Ural State Mining University is the first higher educational institution in the Urals. It was established on July 3 (16), 1914 by the Law approved by Emperor Nicholas II, as the Yekaterinburg Mining Institute. The First World War complicated the construction of the university.

Three years later, it was accepted under the Highest patronage of His Imperial Majesty, and the institute was given the name Ural Mining Institute of Emperor Nicholas II. The first rector of the institute was a 36-year-old professor at the Petrograd Mining Institute, Pyotr Petrovich von Weymarn.

In 1917, the Ural Mining Institute opened its doors to applicants: the Council of the Institute received 610 applications from graduates of gymnasiums, colleges, cadet corps, theological seminaries and teacher institutes; 306 people were enrolled. On October 22, 1917, the first classes began at the university.

From 1923 to 1930, the institute was part of the Ural University (until 1925) and the Ural Polytechnic Institute. In 1934, when the university was renamed the Sverdlovsk Mining Institute, 32 of its departments trained mining specialists.

Over the next 70 years, the educational institution changed several names: Ural Mining Institute (1991), Ural State Mining and Geological Academy (1993). Rapidly increasing the level of education, in 2004 the university successfully passed the procedure for a comprehensive assessment of its activities and, by decision of the Accreditation Board of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, received the highest status and is now called the Ural State Mining University.
