Hadith: Arabic is the language of the inhabitants of Paradise. Some Muslim phrases in Arabic "In sha Allah": how to write

“Verily, Allah and His Angels magnify the degree of the Prophet. O you who believe! Pray to magnify his degree and sincerely wish him prosperity and peace.” (Al-Ahzab, 33/56)

One day the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) came to the Majlis joyfully, with a smile on his face, and said:

“When Jabrail (alaihis salaam) came to me, he said:

- O Muhammad! Are you satisfied that everyone from your community who reads Salavat to you will receive ten Salavat, and the one who conveys one Salavat will receive ten Salavat?” (Nasai and Ibn Hibban)

The Seal of the Prophets (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said:

“Whoever reads one Salavat for me, the Angels will ask for forgiveness ten times. Knowing this, whoever wants will increase (salavat), and whoever wants will decrease.” (Ibn Majah from Amir bin Rabia)

Also, the Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said:

“Whoever writes Salavat in his book when mentioning my name, the Angels will ask for forgiveness for him as long as my name remains there.”

It was narrated from Jabir (radiyallahu anhu) that the Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said:

“If Muslims, having gathered, disperse without reciting Salavat to the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), then a smell worse than the stench of carrion will emanate from them.” (Imam Suyuti)

Abu Mussa At-Tirmidhi reports from some scholars:

“If someone at the Majlis reads Salavat to our Prophet once, then this Majlis will be enough for him.”

Abdurrahman bin Awf (radiyallahu anhu) said that one day the Pride of the Universe (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) went into his room, turned towards the qibla and bowed to the ground (sajdah). He remained in it for so long that Abdurrahman thought: “Perhaps Allah took his soul.” He approached the Prophet and sat down next to him. Soon the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) raised his head and asked:

- Who are you?

- Abdurrahman.

He asked again:

- What's happened?

Abdurrahman replied:

- O Messenger of Allah! You prostrated for so long that I got scared and thought that Allah had taken your soul.

The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said:

– Angel Gabriel (alaihis salaam) appeared to me and told me the good news that Allah Almighty ordered him to convey to me:

“Whoever gives you Salavat and Salam will have My mercy.”

And for this, in gratitude to Allah, I bowed to the ground. (Ahmad bin Hanbal, Musnad)

Abul Mawahib (Rahmatullahi alayhi) said:

“Once in a dream I saw the Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam). He told me:

“You will intercede for one hundred thousand people.”

I was surprised and asked:

- Why did I receive this right, O Messenger of Allah?

He replied:

“Because you gave me rewards for reading Salavat for me.”

Ali bin Abu Talib (radiyallahu anhu) reported that the Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said:

“If my name is mentioned next to a person, and he does not say Salavat, then he is the most stingy of the stingy.”

Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu anhu) reported that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said:

“Let the one near whom my name is mentioned rub his nose on the ground, but he should not say Salavat for me. Let the one who did not ask for forgiveness during Ramadan rub himself on the ground, and Ramadan is over. And let the one whose parents grew old rub his nose on the ground, but he will not be allowed into Paradise.” (Tirmidhi)

Islam-Today

What do you think about it? Leave your comment.

There is a necessary etiquette that we must observe when writing the names of our righteous predecessors. These are the great authorities of religion and they deserve a certain amount of respect.

Most people have the habit of abbreviating prayers for them as “r.a.” and "a.s."

Much worse than this is the use of the acronym “s.a.s.” in relation to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. The greatest man on earth deserves more respect than this.

“Writing an abbreviation instead of the full spelling of “sallallahu alayhi wa sallam” - may Allah bless him and grant him peace - is undesirable. According to Hadith scholars." (Ibn Salah, p. 189. “Tadribu Ravi” 2/22)

“Those who wanted to save ink by using the abbreviated salawat on the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had painful consequences.” (“al-Kawlul Badi” p. 494)

Nowadays, completely writing “sallallahu alayhi wa sallam”, “raziyallahu anhu”, “rahimahullah” or “alaihi ssalaam” does not take so much time or energy.

Someone can even use a ready-made key function for this - the point is that it is printed in full form.

“Hadith scholars encouraged the authors to write the expression “sallallahu alayhi wa sallam” in full, and also to pronounce orally what they wrote.” (“Tadribu Ravi”, 2/20, “al-Kawlyul Badi”, p. 495)

Great reward

The famous Tabiyeen Ja'far al-Sadiq, may Allah have mercy on him, said:

"Angels continue to send blessings to those who wrote “may Allah have mercy on him” or “may Allah bless him and greet him” ", as long as the ink is retained on the paper ». (Ibn Qayyim in “Jilaul Afkham”, p. 56. “al-Kawlyul Badi”, p. 484. “Tadribu Ravi”, 2/19)

Sufyan Savri, may Allah have mercy on him, the famous Mujahid said:

“It is of sufficient benefit for those who disseminate hadith that they continuously receive blessings for themselves as long as the expression “Allah bless him and grant him peace” remains written on paper." (“al-Kawlul Badi”, p. 485)

Allama Sahavi, may Allah have mercy on him, cited many life experiences on this topic from various hadith transmitters. (“al=Qawlyul Badi”, pp. 486-495. Ibn Qayyim, may Allah have mercy on him, “Jilaul Afkham”, p. 56)

Among them is the following case:

The son of Allama Munziri, Sheikh Muhammad ibn Munziri, may Allah have mercy on him, was seen in a dream after his death. He said:

“I entered Paradise and kissed the blessed hand of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), and he said to me: “Whoever writes with his hands “Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace,” will be with me in heaven »

Allama Sahawi, may Allah have mercy on him, said: “ This message was transmitted through a reliable chain. We hope for the mercy of Allah, thanks to which He will bestow this dignity on us.” (“al-Kawlul Badi”, page 487)

Amine.

Al-Khattib al-Baghdadi, may Allah have mercy on him, also reported several similar dreams. (“al-Jamiu li Akhlyaki Ravi”, 1/420-423)

One more note

Some of us have the habit of writing “alayhi salam” (peace be upon him) when mentioning the name of the Messenger of Allah, d

Scientists have conveyed that it is not good to have such a habit. (“Fathul Mugis”; footnote to “al-Kawlyul Badi”, p. 158)

In fact, Ibn Salah and Imam Nawawi, may Allah have mercy on them both, declared it undesirable (makruh). (“Muqaddima ibn Salah”, pp. 189-190, “Sharh Sahih Muslim”, p. 2 and “Tadrib wa Takrib”, 2/22)

The same applies to the one who says: “Alayhi salat” (blessings be upon him). The reason is that we are commanded in the Quran to ask for both things: And Salat (blessing) and Salam (peace) to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. (Sura 33, verse 56)

Allah Almighty said in Holy Quran(meaning):

إِنَّ اللَّـهَ وَمَلَائِكَتَهُ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ۚ يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا صَلُّوا عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمُوا تَسْلِيمًا

“Verily, Allah and His angels bless the Prophet. O you who believe! Bless him and greet him in peace."(Sura 33, verse 56)

When we say “alaihi salaam” we are only sending “salaam” without “salat”.

If someone has a habit of speaking occasionally "Alayhi salam" (peace be upon him), and in some cases “alayhi salat” (blessings be upon him), then this will not be considered undesirable (makruh).

Let us write and pronounce salawat in full, without abbreviation, whenever we remember the name of our beloved Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.

The note:

“Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam” (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) - it is customary to say exclusively when mentioning the name of our beloved Messenger of Allahand Allah bless him and greet him.

“Razi Allahu anhu” (may Allah be pleased with him) - in relation to the companions of the Prophet, dand Allah bless him and greet him.

“Rahimahullah” (may Allah have mercy on him) - in relation to scientists, righteous people who know Allah

“Alaihi ssalaam” (peace be upon him) - in relation to the rest of the Prophets, peace be upon them.

Imam al-Suyuty said: “And it was said that the first one who shortened the spelling of salawat in the form of “s..a.s.” had his hand cut off.” (See “Tadrib al-Rawi” 2/77)

Tabiyin (plural, Arabic)تابعين ) -followers. The term "tabi"in" is used in relation to Muslims who have seen the Sahabah.

About the abbreviated scripture of blessing for the Prophet Muhammad

(صلى الله عليه وسلم)

I would like to make a small reminder about shortening the blessing after mentioning the name of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), as some often do: S.A.S. or A.S.S.

In the famous book “al-Ba'is al-Khasis” in the section on how to write hadiths, it is said: “One should always praise Allah and invoke blessings on His Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), even if these words are repeated many times, and one should not get tired of it, since these words contain great good. And you should write the words of blessing and greeting in full, and not denote them with conventional symbols. And you should not limit yourself to the words “‘alaihi-sallam” (peace be upon him), but should clearly and completely write “sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam” (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).”

Imam Ibn Jama'a also said: “Whenever he (Talibul-‘il) writes the name of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), let him add words of blessing and greeting and invoke blessings on him by saying these words out loud. Both the Salaf and their followers made it a rule to write “sallallaahu ‘alehi wa sallam” (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) so that these words correspond to what Allah Almighty said in His Great Book:

إِنَّ اللَّهَ وَمَلائِكَتَهُ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا صَلُّوا عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمُوا تَسْلِيمًا ( 33:56 )

“Allah and His angels bless the prophet. O you who have believed, bless him and greet him with peace!” (al-Ahzab 33:56).

Words of blessing should not be written abbreviated in books, even if they appear several times on one line, as is done by some people who are deprived of blessings and consider writing these words burdensome for themselves, and write only their initial letters, for example: “s.a.” .a.s.", "a.s.s." All this does not allow us to pay tribute to our prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).”. See Tazkiratu-ssami' 162.

May the words of these imams serve as an instruction for each of us!

And since we are not bothered by writing numerous lines, then let us not be bothered by writing a blessing for the prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)!

In addition to the letter abbreviation, in the literature about Islam in Russian there is a tendency to replace the words of Salavat with printed cliches containing a stylized spelling of Salavat as a combination of Russian letters or lines arranged in several rows, i.e. the actual transcription of the Arabic text in Russian letters like: “sallallahu 'alehi wa sallam”, and in the depiction of a similar text in Arabic in the form of a complex calligraphic interweaving of letters, which can be distinguished due to the extremely small size and quality of printing, and accordingly identified as Salavat is sometimes difficult for a person who can read and write in Arabic, not to mention a simple Muslim who is just beginning to learn the basics of our religion.

A similar spelling of salavat using cliches usually looks like the one presented below, but due to its small size, it is difficult to identify in some publications.

This cliche was originally developed for texts in Arabic, in which the letter size is larger than in European languages, and accordingly there it scales well with the text and looks much more appropriate.
At the end, let me express my point of view on this issue. The most rational thing, in my opinion, would be to use the spelling of salavat as it is, i.e. directly in Arabic صلى الله عليه وسلم " I think that with the current level of development of computer book layout and printing technology, it is unlikely that any difficulties will arise with embedding one Arabic phrase into a text in Russian. Moreover, such a spelling will be recognizable, generally understandable and acceptable from the Sharia point of view, and is unlikely to cause criticism or disagreement. The second useful purpose of such a generally accepted writing of salawat would be the popularization of the Arabic language among Muslims, because frequent visual perception of the same phrase when reading an article or book mnemotechnically contributes to its memorization and easier reproduction.

15:05 2018

Almost one and a half thousand years ago, a ray of light illuminated the world, drowning in the darkness of ignorance. A ray that illuminated the path and dispelled the darkness, freeing people from worshiping one another to worship the Lord of the worlds. Allah says in the Quran (meaning): “Alif. Lam. Ra. We have sent down the Scripture to you so that you will lead people, with the permission of their Lord, from darkness to light - to the path of the Mighty, the Praiseworthy" (Sura Ibrahim, verse 1).

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to people one and a half thousand years ago to establish the last Sharia of Allah Almighty, which will answer all questions and requests of people until the Day of Judgment. Allah says (meaning): “Today I have perfected your religion for you, completed My mercy on you and approved Islam for you as a religion” (Sura “Meal”, verse 3). Fair, responsible, intelligent, kind, gentle, brave, strong - the best of the people who have ever inhabited the planet - he built a society and a state the likes of which the world has never seen before and will never see again.

Allah says about him (meaning): "We sent you only as a mercy to the worlds"(Surah Prophets, verse 107). Addressing His Messenger, Allah says (meaning): “Truly, your character is excellent!”

Intellectual explosion

If we turn to history, we will see that unremarkable sultry deserts one and a half thousand years ago showed the world a great civilization, stretching from China to the Atlantic. Arab society, which did not play any serious role in the historical arena, raised science and culture in a way that no one had ever raised them. Based on the words and actions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), Islamic jurists built a perfect legal system, the beauty and depth of which has not yet been comprehended and appreciated by humanity. European orientalists just throw up their hands in amazement, exclaiming: “This is a great right, which the great minds behind it wanted to attribute to the Koran and Sunnah Muhammad! But that's just what they want to believe. In fact, the opposite is true: the Quran and Sunnah gave society the most powerful scientific impetus in the history of mankind, after which the world saw not only Islamic law, but also algebra, geometry, physics, chemistry, astronomy, medicine... on a completely new level. Allah says (meaning): “Say: “Are those who know and those who do not know equal to each other?”(Sura “Crowds”, verse 9), and the revelation of the Koran - the last scripture of Allah Almighty, containing thousands of commands, which was revealed over 23 years - began with the word “Read!” This command was the foundation on which Islamic civilization rose.

Progress and development of society were the accompanying factors and inevitable consequences of the call of the last Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to humanity. His main mission was to educate people to refuse to worship the same people, society, passions, idols, Satan... and to turn to the worship of Allah alone - the Lord of the worlds.

Allah says (meaning): “We did not create the heavens and the earth and what is between them in vain.”(Sura Sad, verse 27). Allah also says (meaning): “O people! Verily, We created you from a man and a woman and made you nations and tribes so that you may recognize each other, and the most revered among you before Allah is the most God-fearing. Verily, Allah is Knowing, Knowing” (Sura “Rooms”, verse 13).

Between "best" and "worst"

The messenger mission of Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) is indicated by a lot of indisputable evidence. Among them is the obvious difference between the best and the worst person on earth. Everyone knows that the prophets of Allah are among His best creations. Moreover, one of the verses of the Quran, revealed to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), says: “Who could be more unjust than the one who slandered Allah or considered His signs a lie? Indeed, the wrongdoers will not prosper" (Surah Scott, verse 21).

Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was the best of people who raised the best generation that ever existed. The smart and brave, sincere and intelligent followed him, and after a certain time the entire society surrounding him followed him. This society then built a state and a civilization. All those who fought with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and were hostile to his call perished, despite the economic, political and military advantage that they had. An indication of this is contained in the shortest surah of the Koran, “Abundance”: “Truly, your hater himself will be childless.”(verse 3). The enemies of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) tried to belittle his dignity by the fact that he did not raise sons who would glorify his family. They did not understand the wisdom of Allah Almighty inherent in this circumstance, Who glorified and exalted the name of his prophet, who became the leader of billions of people, while history did not show any honor to his enemies.

No one can boast that he is a descendant Abu Lahaba or Abu Jahl, because these people ended their lives in enmity with the best call of the best messenger of Allah.

History, by the will of Allah, has clearly demonstrated the power of the words of the Lord of the Worlds (meaning): “Who could be more unjust than the one who slandered Allah or considered His signs a lie? Indeed, the wrongdoers will not prosper" (Surah Scott, verse 21). None of those who falsely claimed prophethood in the early days of Islam succeeded. Only the true Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) succeeded, and people easily distinguished between the best and the worst, between the most unjust wrongdoers and the most truthful prophet of the Almighty.

This is not difficult today. Anyone who undertakes an objective study of the life of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), a reliably preserved history bit by bit, will easily discern in it the great path made by man and dictated by the Lord of the worlds.

Imagine who the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) should be, whose standard morals are collected in thousands of books, according to those who did not recognize him? Could a hypocrite, whose call was based on the greatest deception, speak in the name of the Almighty Lord: (meaning): “Who could be more unjust than the one who slandered Allah or considered His signs a lie? Indeed, the wrongdoers will not succeed” (Sura “Cattle”, verse 21) - to have the character known from the Messenger of Allah, and to educate a highly moral society that changed the course of history? This is counterintuitive.

Attitude towards others

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was a gentle and meek person. Where necessary, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was tough, but the basis of his character was meekness. He was the most truthful person, and the Quraish (his fellow tribesmen - “islamcivil.ru”) called him a liar. He was the most pious man, and they accused him of impiety. He only wanted the best for people, and they threw stones at him... But all this did not in any way affect his gentleness and meekness.

He never took revenge for himself and always loved to forgive. He was the most generous and wanted the best for the people around him. When Mecca submitted to his call, he entered it with his head bowed. There was not a drop of arrogance in him, and people had confidence in him. Having earned himself an ideal reputation forty years before the prophecy began, he received the nickname "Amin", which means "trusted". Even those who rejected his call continued to trust him implicitly in economic and other matters. In hostility to his call, they could leave their property with him for safekeeping. And the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) never let anyone down. Fleeing from a society that wanted to treacherously kill him, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) made sure that the property left with him for safekeeping by these same people returned to its owners.

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was a great ruler, politician and strategist. Of course, he was led by the Lord of the worlds. However, this did not stop him from becoming a great educator, father, husband, neighbor and friend. He was an example in everything. Therefore, Allah Almighty said about him (meaning): (Sura “Hosts”, verse 21).

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) took care of his companions in a way that their closest relatives did not care for them. He cared about their marriage, their financial condition, their mood... He noticed who was missing after the battle, when others did not notice. He did not seek to punish people and tried to find an excuse for them, even when they came to him with confessions, wanting to be punished according to the law. He cared about those who committed crimes, caring for their psychological state, forbidding people from vilifying and insulting them.

He was always concerned about his community. He worried about her throughout his life, he worried about her while dying, and he will worry about her on Judgment Day. On the Day when “a man will abandon his brother, his mother and his father, his wife and his sons, for every man will have his own worries to fill” (Surah “Frown”, verses 34-37).

He gained such authority among people that they were ready to carry out any of his orders at the very first minute. For example, men who drank wine, which was an important part of the Arabs’ leisure time, upon learning of its ban, immediately poured out the intoxicating drinks. This event remained in history as the day on which rivers of wine flowed through Medina, and after that the smell of it lingered for a long time. Women reacted in much the same way to the hijab mandate.

Conclusion

We can talk about the personality of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and the hard-to-imagine fruits of his call. In order not to bore the reader, we will dwell on this, despite the fact that we have not even touched on one of the greatest indications of the truth of his prophecy - the correctness, universality and naturalness of the beliefs and legal norms with which he came. Beliefs and norms on which the new society, state and civilization were built. Beliefs and norms that harmoniously regulate all spheres of human life in the most complete manner, starting with a person’s relationship with Allah Almighty, ending with the economic, family and political spheres.

In conclusion, we would like to remind Muslims of the need to study the biography of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) - the best of the people who ever inhabited the planet, who is an example for each of us. It will open before us amazing life an amazing person who achieved amazing results. We will see how the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) treated friends and enemies, how he met joy and sorrow, how he was angry and how he laughed, where he was strict and where he was condescending... Perhaps much of what we are accustomed to consider the true manifestation of Islam was not inherent in the one who was sent to spread it and put it into practice, and vice versa.

“In the Messenger of Allah there was a wonderful example for you, for those who hope in Allah and the Last Day.”(Sura “Hosts”, verse 21).

§ 2. “Baraka-Allah” ( بَارَكَاللهُ )

Praise be to Allah, we turn to Him for help, we ask Him for forgiveness and protection from the evil of our souls and the filth of our deeds. The one whom Allah has led along the right path, no one can lead astray; the one whom Allah has made astray, no one can guide him to the straight path. We testify that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, and we testify that Muhammad is His slave and messenger.

Translation of the expression “baraka-Llahu” ( بَارَكَاللهُ ):

« barracks» (بَارَكَ ) – may he bless, may he send down grace.

« Allah"(اللهُ) - Allah.

You can also add the following words to this phrase:

1)" fic» (فِيكَ ) or " ficum» (فِيكُمْ ) – you/you (literally – “in you”/“in you”).

2) " lac» (لَكَ ) or " lyakum» (لَكُمْ ) – for you/for you.

3) " ʼ aleyk" (عليك) or " ʼ alaikum» (عليكم ) – on you/on you.

Accordingly, the phrases will sound like this:

1)" baraka-llahu fik/ficum» (بَارَكَ اللهُ فِيكَ / فِيكُمْ ).

« May Allah bless you/you"(lit. in you/in you).

2) " baraka-llahu lak/lyakum» (بَارَكَ اللهُ لَكَ / لَكُمْ ).

« May Allah bless you/you"(literally for you/for you).

3) " baraka - Allah ʼ aleyk/ ʼ alaikum» (بَارَكَ اللهُ عليك / عليكم ).

« May Allah bless you/you"(literally on you / on you).

There is no fundamental difference in which of these expressions will be said, the main thing is that it contains a sincere intention to ask Allah for blessings and grace (barakat) for the person or property that the person is looking at. If we limit ourselves to the words “baraka-Allah fik”, then this will be quite enough for any circumstances if a person finds it difficult to choose the most appropriate expression for the situation each time.

The difference is that the first phrase (baraka-Llahu fik) is more appropriate to say when talking about a person’s personal qualities and virtues, such as knowledge, beauty, skill, experience, diligence, strength, kindness, etc. The second phrase (baraka-Allahu lak) is better to say when we wish grace (barakat) for what belongs to a person or what he can use and benefit from. For example: wealth, car, house, wife, children, job, gift, opportunity, etc. The third phrase (baraka-Allahuʼ aleik) we say when we want a person’s life, in general, to be blessed, so that grace is present in all deeds and circumstances.

When the expression is said "baraka-Allah" (بَارَكَاللهُ ) ?

These words should be said when a person likes something about his or someone else’s property, family, opportunities or qualities given by Allah. This expression is intended to become an obstacle from the evil eye, since it is a prayer offered to Allah, which, by His will, neutralizes the power of the evil eye. And the evil eye is true, it really exists.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

العين حق, ولو كان شيء سابق القدر سبقته العين

“The evil eye exists, and if there was anything that could outpace predestination, it would be the evil eye.” .

Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said:

كان يؤمر العائن فيتوضأ ثم يغسل منه المعين

“The one who jinxed himself was ordered to perform ablution (taharat), then the one who was jinxed should wash himself with this water.” .

As Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah grant him mercy) said in his famous book “Zad al-Maad” (Provisions for Return): “The evil eye occurs when a person looks at a thing or person he likes, and this look is followed by vile, base qualities of his soul, which poison with their poison the one on whom the evil eye has fallen. Allah ordered His Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) al-Falaq (Dawn) to turn to Him for protection from envious people:

وَمِن شَرِّ حَاسِدٍ إِذَا حَسَدَ

“[And I seek Allah’s protection] from the evil of the envious person when he is jealous.” (Quran, 113:4).

Every person who has the evil eye is an envious person, but not every envious person produces an evil eye. It turns out that an envious person is a broader concept than the owner of an evil eye, which means that asking for Allah’s protection from envy immediately includes a request for protection from the evil eye. The evil eye is arrows flying from an envious heart towards the object of one's envy; sometimes they hit the target, and sometimes they fly past. If it turns out that their target is unprotected, then they hit it. If the evil eye hits impenetrable armor, then its arrows will not cause any harm to the owner of this armor and, perhaps, will bounce off and injure the one who fired them.” (end of quote).

It is reported that Sahl ibn Hanif went out with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) towards Mecca. When they were in the Harar gorge in the Jukhfa region, Sahl ibn Hanif took a swim. He was a fair man, he had a beautiful body and white skin.ʼ Amir ibn Rabi'a from the tribeʼ Adiy ibn Kya ʼ ab saw Sahl and said to him while he was swimming: “Never before have I seen someone like you, with such a beautiful appearance.” After this, Sahl lay down as if struck. People came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: “O Messenger of Allah, can you help Sahl with anything? We swear by Allah, he can’t raise his head.” The Prophet asked: “Do you suspect anyone in connection with this?” They said: "ʼ Amir ibn Rabia looked at him." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) calledʼ Amir and, angry with him, asked: “Why does one of you kill his brother? If you saw something you liked, then why didn’t you pray for the sending of grace (barakat)?” Then he told him: "Perform ablution" . ʼ Amir washed his face, hands, elbows, knees, feet, and part of the body under the izar (loincloth) over the basin. After this, water was poured on Sahl. One man poured water over his head and back, then tipped the basin over behind him. As soon as he did this, Sahl stood up and walked with the people without experiencing any difficulties."

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) also said:

إذا رأى أحدكم من نفسه أو ماله أو من أخيه ما يعجبه فليدع له بالبركة فٍان العين حق

“If one of you sees something that he likes in himself, in his property or in his brother, then let him ask Allah to send grace (barakat), because the evil eye exists.” .

From these hadiths we see that if a person likes something, then he is obliged to protect the object of his admiration from the unintentional evil eye. To do this, he must say “baraka-Allah fik”, i.e. to invoke grace (barakat) from Allah, and this is sunnah, and pronouncing the words “masha-Allah” is not sunnah and does not correspond to the circumstances and the very meaning of these words, although, of course, there is no sin in this. And Allah knows better about this.

It is also not consistent with the Sunnah in this context to say “tabaraka-Allah” (تبارك الله), which translates as “blessed is Allah.” This phrase is a prayer for the sending of grace, but with these words we glorify Allah himself. I repeat once again that when we say: “Such and such a thing does not correspond to the Sunnah,” this does not always mean that this action is bidaat (innovation in religion). Sometimes, as in in this case, this means failure to comply with the Sunnah. The Prophet did not teach us that when we see something we like, we begin to glorify Allah, but he taught us to ask Allah for the sending of grace. As they say, every place has its own word.

What is barakat?

The Arabic word "" contains two meanings: 1) Large quantity, 2) Constancy and steadfastness. Thus, to wish barakat for someone or something means to wish it abundance and permanence. When we wish barakah for someone, we mean that we want the person to have good, and it to remain constant, that is, not to decrease.

- this is the presence of divine blessing in a certain thing or in some deed. If grace descends into small things, it will make them numerous, and if grace descends into large things, it will make them useful. And the most important sign of the presence of grace in something is that this thing or this gift is used by a person to obey Allah (Great and Glorified is He) and helps its owner to receive benefit not only in this life, but also in the Next.

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds, peace and blessings on the Prophet Muhammad, as well as his family and all his companions and believers until the Day of Judgment.
