Irkutsk Aviation Technical College dates back to 1947, when, in accordance with the Resolution of the Council of Ministers of the USSR dated June 27, 1947, a school for junior aviation specialists of the Civil Air Fleet was opened in the city with a one-year training period. The school staff graduated seven aviation mechanics. 688 specialists in servicing Po-2 and Li-2 aircraft were sent to airlines in the Urals, Siberia, the Far East, and the Far North. On July 12, 1951, by order of the head of the Main Directorate of the Civil Air Fleet, the Irkutsk School of Aviation Mechanics was reorganized into the Irkutsk Aviation Technical School of the Civil Air Fleet (IATU Civil Air Fleet, then IATU GA). At the origins of the creation of the school were Ivanov V.A. (head of the school, college), heads of services Bytsan S.V., Naumov N.I., Kukuev L.A., teachers Kozlova M.A., Krol T.T. , Nikitin I.S., Polibina A.G., Shevtsov A.G. Through their efforts, the educational and material base was created, the educational process was organized, and the living conditions of the cadets were established.

Having started their journey with the study of the material part of the Po-2 and Li-2 aircraft, the teaching staff of the school and generations of cadets subsequently mastered the design of the Il-12, Il-14, An-2, An-24, An-10, Tu-104 aircraft , Tu-154, Yak-42, Il-76, Mi-8 helicopter and its modifications. This process was accompanied by the re-equipment of existing ones and the creation of new specialized classrooms and laboratories, the replenishment of aviation equipment at the training airfield, an increase in the book stock, and painstaking methodological work on cycle commissions. Simultaneously with the reorganization of the school, a military cycle for the training of reserve officers was opened at the school. Military aircraft MiG-9, MiG-15, MiG-23, Tu-4, Tu-16, An-12 were mastered. The school annually increased the production of aircraft technicians. The first graduation, 1953, amounted to 45 people, ten years later, in 1963 - 226 people, in 1968 - 458, in 1978 - 532.

The geography of distribution of graduates was also extensive. Thus, the first graduation of aircraft technicians for servicing the Tu-154 aircraft in 1979 was distributed to the East Siberian, West Siberian, Far Eastern, Tyumen, Krasnoyarsk, Yakutsk, Magadan, Ural, and Kazakh civil aviation departments. In the period from 1963 to 1979, the school trained cadets - citizens of Mongolia; a total of 69 aircraft technicians were trained.

In 2009, IATK GA was reorganized into IATK - a branch of the Moscow State Technical University of Civil Aviation.

The college was founded by Resolution No. 2243-616C of the Council of Ministers of the Soviet Union dated June 27, 1947 under the name Irkutsk School of Aviation Junior Specialists of the State Military Fleet for the training of mechanics. Civil Aviation (formed in 1947)

Irkutsk Aviation Technical College is the only secondary vocational educational institution of the civil aviation system in Eastern Siberia and the Far East and one of the oldest educational institutions in Irkutsk. June 27, 1947 The Council of Ministers of the USSR adopted a resolution "On the reorganization of educational institutions of the Main Directorate of the Civil Air Fleet", according to which new educational institutions were created and among them the Irkutsk School of Aviation Mechanics. The school, which began its journey with training specialists for servicing Po-2, Li-2, Si-47 aircraft, has developed in step with the times. In a short period of time, it was staffed with professional teaching staff and was able to move on to training specialists in the Il-12, Il-14, An-2 aircraft. In this regard, the aviation school in 1951. was transformed into an aviation technical school.

A big stage in the development of the school at the end of the fifties was the transition to the training of aviation mechanics for servicing aircraft with gas turbine engines - the world's first jet passenger aircraft Tu-104 and the An-10 turboprop passenger aircraft. In the seventies and eighties, the school continued to master new types of aircraft and train aircraft mechanics for them. Over the years, the Tu-154, Yak-42 aircraft, the Mi-8 helicopter and others have been mastered.

To train aviation specialists with a higher level of qualifications in aircraft maintenance in 1994. An aviation technical college of civil aviation is being created on the basis of the school. In the same year, the college began training specialists for civil engineering enterprises in the specialty “Economics, accounting for technical purposes.”
