In 2018, more than 133 thousand people took part in the Unified State Examination in Biology, which is slightly more than the number of exam participants in 2017 (111,748), 2016 (126,006) and 2015 (122,936). The biology exam is traditionally in demand and is one of the five most popular final elective exams. It is chosen by biology-motivated graduates entering medical, veterinary, agricultural universities, psychological and biological faculties of universities, academies and institutes physical culture and sports and a number of other universities.

In 2018, the average test score was 51.4. Its slight decrease compared to last year is primarily due to a decrease in the proportion of participants in the test score range of 61–80 (by 2.26%) and an increase in the proportion of participants in the range of 41–60 (by 3.26%). At the same time, there is a persistent downward trend in the number of participants with results in the range of 81–100. The reduction in the proportion of high-scoring students can be explained by a set of measures to improve the quality of verification of detailed answers by experts of regional subject commissions, as well as the inclusion in Part 2 of the KIM of new topics of a specific, contextual, practice-oriented nature, which required clear argumentation, and not the reproduction of general or specific knowledge on the subject. This made it possible to better differentiate participants with high test scores.

The minimum test score in 2018, as in previous years, was 36 points, and the primary score was 16 points. Share Unified State Exam participants in biology, who did not score the minimum number of points in 2018, was 17.4%. Compared to 2017, the share of participants who scored test scores in the range of 41–60 was 40.6% (in 2017 – 37.3%), and in the range of 61–80 was 25.6% (in 2017 – 27.9%).

Completed all tasks in 2018 exam paper and 48 graduates scored 100 points, which amounted to 0.04% of total number Unified State Examination participants. The data obtained indicate, on the one hand, that there is sufficient high level the complexity of the KIM Unified State Exam 2018 model and, on the other hand, the availability of tasks, which is confirmed by the distribution of primary and test scores of participants.

When passing the Unified State Exam (USE), a special place is occupied by minimum score Unified State Exam. This is the minimum threshold of knowledge in Unified State Examination scores, upon exceeding which a Unified State Examination certificate is issued in compulsory subjects. Or in other words, this is the Unified State Examination score corresponding to a satisfactory mark. If you receive a score less than the minimum in elective subjects, nothing is added to the certificate. The minimum Unified State Exam score in all subjects is set annually after passing the Unified State Exam and before the results are announced.

However, each university has the right to set a minimum Unified State Exam score higher than those recommended by Rosobrnadzor. The difference can reach 20-40 points or even more. For example, to enter the St. Petersburg National Research Academic University in 2018, you will need to score at least 65 points on the Unified State Exam in Russian and at least 75 points on the Unified State Exam in mathematics and physics. At the same time, in universities subordinate to the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, minimum Unified State Examination points in one subject may differ depending on the specialty and the location of the university (region): the minimum threshold for universities located in Moscow, the Moscow region and St. Petersburg, as a rule, is slightly higher.

Scale for converting Unified State Exam scores 2018 in all subjects

In order to convert primary scores into test scores, a special table developed by Rosobrnadzor is required (Appendix No. 2 to the order of the Federal Service for Supervision in Education and Science dated April 26, 2017 No. 920-10). It is called “Correspondence between primary scores and test scores for all academic subjects using a hundred-point assessment system.”

Meanwhile, in any rule there is an exception, and it was found here. This is the Unified State Examination in mathematics. basic level. The results of this exam are given in primary scores and translated into a five-point grading system.

Converting Unified State Exam test scores into school grades

Officially, the scale for transferring points according to Unified State Exam subjects the five-point assessment has not been used for a long time (namely, since 2008). However, many still want to interpret their result in a more familiar “school” system. To do this, you can use the table below or online calculators.

Is it possible to retake the Unified State Exam in compulsory subjects in 2018?

Yes, graduates of 2018 can retake the Unified State Exam in a compulsory subject. Exams in Russian language and mathematics are mandatory. But the procedure for conducting state final certification in Russia does not allow everyone who wishes to retake the Unified State Exam to improve their results.

The order is strict, and it looks like this:

  • You can retake the Unified State Exam in only one of the two compulsory subjects,
  • The Unified State Exam can be retaken only if the grade is unsatisfactory.

Thus, if a graduate fails both mandatory exams: Russian language and mathematics, retaking the exam on the reserve dates at the end of June will not be possible for him. If unsatisfactory grades are received in both compulsory subjects, the student will be able to go to retake only in September, when the autumn wave of retaking the compulsory Unified State Examination will take place.

Many graduates ask how many points they need to score on the Unified State Exam in a particular subject. The Russian language, like mathematics, usually arouses the greatest interest.

Minimum score

It should be noted that Russian is a compulsory subject on the Unified State Examination. Successfully completing the minimum level allows you to receive a certificate of secondary education general education. A score of “2” is given for a result from 0 to 35 points. In this case, the exam is considered failed. The test in a compulsory subject can be retaken on special reserve days (but this can only be Russian or mathematics - re-taking the test in both subjects in the same year is not allowed). If the additional exam was also failed, the student has the right to retake it only next year. Thus, in order to pass the Unified State Exam in Russian the first time, you need to score at least 36 points.

How many points do C, A, and A students need?

If you get an A in your Russian language certificate, you shouldn’t worry about the Unified State Exam lowering your grade. Unified State Exam results have no longer had an impact on final school grades. Nevertheless, there is a scale for converting test results into the usual five-point system:

0–35 - two;
36–57 - three;
58–71 - four;
72 and above - five.

Thus, if your result is at least 72 points, then consider that it corresponds to an excellent certificate. If you score, for example, 65 points, that is, get a B, this will not affect the grade on the certificate. The result will be indicated only in a special certificate of passing the Unified State Exam.

How many points do you need to enter the university?

For the majority of Unified State Examination graduates, not only the main exam, which allows them to obtain a certificate of secondary education, but also entrance test to a higher education institution. It is difficult to say how many points in the Russian language you need to score to enter the university. It all depends on the quantity budget places, prestige educational institution, competition, etc. In addition, today, when entering universities, the sum of points for all entrance examinations is taken into account. Thus, their exact number is important for any direction where Russian is required for admission.

Whether such a system is good or not is quite difficult to determine. On the one hand, it obliges you to prepare equally intensively in all subjects, on the other hand, it gives you a chance even if the scores in the main discipline are not equal to 100. For example, in order to enroll in the undergraduate journalism department of Moscow State University in 2016, applicants had to pass four exam (Russian and foreign languages, literature and an additional entrance test of a creative orientation), each of which was assessed on a 100-point scale. The final result, on the basis of which admission was based, was the sum of points scored in each subject.

Russian language and mathematics. According to data from past years, almost half of graduates (49%) pass social studies. And this is not surprising, since the Unified State Exam in social studies is required for admission to all humanities specialties.

In essence, the subject “social studies” includes information on various aspects of society, studied within the whole class humanities: economics, law, philosophy, sociology, political science and, to some extent, history.

The version of the KIM Unified State Exam in social studies has undergone minor changes. The developers revised the difficulty of tasks No. 28 and 29, which is why the maximum primary score for the entire test increased from 62 to 64.

Unified State Examination

Last year, to pass the Unified State Examination in social studies with at least a C, it was enough to score 19 primary points. They were given, for example, by correctly completing the first 13 tasks of the test.

It is not yet known exactly what will happen in 2019: we need to wait for the official order from Rosobrnadzor on the correspondence of primary and test scores. Most likely it will appear in December. Considering that the maximum primary score has increased from 62 to 64, it is very likely that the minimum score may change slightly.

In the meantime, you can focus on these tables:

Structure of the Unified State Exam

In 2019, the Unified State Exam test in social studies consists of two parts, including 29 tasks.

  • Part 1: 20 tasks (No. 1–20) with a short answer (choose the correct answer from those proposed, establish a correspondence between the elements of two sets, insert the missing word in the text);
  • Part 2: 9 tasks (No. 21-29) with a detailed answer (answers to questions, mini-essays).

Preparation for the Unified State Exam

  • Pass Unified State Exam tests online for free without registration and SMS. The tests presented are identical in complexity and structure to the actual exams conducted in the corresponding years.
  • Download demo versions of the Unified State Exam in social studies, which will allow you to better prepare for the exam and pass it easier. All proposed tests are developed and approved to prepare for Unified State Examination Federal Institute of Pedagogical Measurements (FIPI). In the same FIPI all official Unified State Exam options.

The tasks you will see most likely will not appear on the exam, but there will be tasks similar to the demo ones on the same topics.
