Correct citation in the thesis for anti-plagiarism. Formatting quotes, examples. Rules for formatting direct speech and quotes

The success of its online promotion depends on the quality and uniqueness of the content that fills the site. Uniqueness is also required from educational works, such as abstracts, coursework, diplomas, author's works, etc.

    • How to make text unique: 4 steps
    • How to make text unique: 6 honest ways
    • How to deceive the anti-plagiarism program: dishonest methods
    • Methods that will NOT help to uniqueize text

When it is impossible to write a completely unique text, resort to rewriting, or rewriting (from the English rewrite, rewrite). Rewriting is somewhat reminiscent of a school presentation, when source retold (rewritten) in your own words. However, rewriting can also be different - sometimes it is necessary to study not one, but several sources, change the structure of the text (the so-called deep rewriting), sometimes it is enough to simply replace some words with synonyms.

The uniqueness of the text is checked using special anti-plagiarism programs and measured as a percentage. If the text is completely or partially stolen from another resource, the program will show a low percentage of uniqueness, and will also highlight non-unique passages and show their source.

Below are useful tips how to achieve uniqueness and deceive anti-plagiarism. We hope that these tips will help you create original text that is loyal to the customer and search engines.

How to make text unique: 4 steps

So, here is an approximate algorithm on how to bypass anti-plagiarism and achieve a unique result.

Step 1. Select a service to check

First we need to decide on a service that will check our work. There are many anti-plagiarism programs. If the customer has not specified a specific program, then it is better to check the uniqueness with 1-2 programs of your choice.

Some of them (like etxt, advego) require downloading and installation on your computer. Others, for example text.ru, are available to users online.

At the same time, you should be prepared for the fact that different services show different percentages of text uniqueness. The difference in readings can reach 50%!

The fact is that each of them has its own algorithm for counting and analyzing text material, which is inaccessible to most users.

Step 2. Save all text variations

The next step on the path to how to bypass anti-plagiarism is to save all versions of the text: both the original and all others.

The main thing is not to get confused and consistently change the structure and content, achieving the desired indicator of the anti-plagiarism program.

Step 3. Making the text unique

How to achieve this - read below. If 98-100% uniqueness is not required, it is better to play it safe and make the uniqueness 5-10% higher than necessary to pass verification on any service.

If free applications show a good indicator, then a paid one may underestimate it, and as a result, the uniqueness will not be what the customer required.

Knowledge is power! Or how to use shingle rules

A shingle is a small piece of text consisting of several words, which is used to check the uniqueness of what is written. If the shingle “3” is specified, this means that three words will be checked. Such data is set in the parameters of the program itself. It is easier to deceive the anti-plagiarist if you know this meaning.

The larger the shingle value, the easier it is to achieve original author material. But the optimal value for the customer and performer will be 4-5 words. Replace the first or last word in a phrase, and the text will immediately become original.

Step 4. Save the finished text

Once the required percentage of originality is obtained, the text must be saved and sent for verification.

All ways to bypass the anti-plagiarism program can be divided into honest (when the uniqueness of the text really increases) and dishonest (when the text remains the same, but the program perceives it as unique). Let's look at them.

How to make text unique: 6 honest ways

Below are working tools that will help make any source material unique for search engines.

Method 1. Deep processing of the source material/retelling in your own words

This is what is called rewriting, which literally means “rewriting” in English.

Method 2. Using synonyms

Do you want to know the answer to how to pass anti-plagiarism? Use synonyms. It is important to understand here: despite the fact that synonyms often make the material unique, the author is forced to constantly search for certain substitute words. As a result, he becomes fixated on this, which causes the meaning of the text to suffer.

Another interesting feature is to insert formulas and tables in the form of pictures. This technique allows you to increase the uniqueness of the text.

If the selection of synonyms goes poorly, use synonymizers. Synonymizers are special applications that allow you to quickly select words that are different in spelling, but similar in meaning to the original query. They are provided for a fee or free of charge.

They can request not only individual terms, but also entire phrases. This is convenient, but still does not make it possible to completely edit the previous material in a few seconds.

Method 3. Translating text from sources in another language

Translating text from sources in another language is a great way to fool etxt anti-plagiarism and any other program. The result is a completely unique work, because the source text for the rewrite was published in another language.

The problems are that

  • you need to find material that is suitable in content, written in a foreign language. Obviously, you will have to find several sources to obtain the required content.
  • you need to be able to translate it correctly.

translations themselves pay much better than rewriting. Read more in the article: “ How to make money by translating articles».

Method 4. Replacing frequently repeated words

Often these are some kind of conjunctions or words that are meaningfully related to the keys. We replace 1-2 synonyms that are close in meaning.

Method 5. Reworking the sentence from the end

Many sentences used in articles and other materials are complex. That is, they have two parts, one of which is subordinate to the other. It is enough to swap them in order to achieve not 100% uniqueness, but a good coefficient.

Again, a lot will depend on the size of the shingle. But in many cases, the meaning of a particular phrase can be conveyed to the reader in reverse order.

Method 6. Using words like “directly”

It is believed that using this or similar adverbs twice per 1000 characters will make the text more authorial, that is, original. With more frequent use, it may become noticeable. But here a certain skill is required in order to correctly and correctly enter these adverbs.

How to deceive the anti-plagiarism program: dishonest methods

In addition to honest (or relatively honest) methods, there are also dishonest methods that help to deceive the plagiarism program, forcing it to evaluate a non-unique text as unique.

  • Adding automatic transfers

On the one hand, a very simple way from the field of how to cheat anti-plagiarism for free. On the other hand, not all works welcome this.

For abstracts this may be a suitable solution, but when writing articles for publication on websites, customers will not accept work with transfers, and their removal will immediately reveal the true state of affairs. Therefore, it is necessary to discuss all technical nuances in advance.

  • Using material not indexed by search engines

As a rule, search robots analyze material taken from a site and enter data about it into storage. The indexed text is thus the one that has already been checked by the search engines Google and others.

  • Using Word macros

Macros are convenient for the user in that he can record the key combinations he most often needs and then access them as many times as needed in a second. This makes it possible to simplify frequently used actions or their combinations.

Working with text fragments works in a similar way, which makes it possible to increase its uniqueness.

  • Visual Basic Macro Help

A method for programmers who know how to use Visual Basic, how to deceive anti-plagiarism and other programs. Everything is very simple: after each word or character, depending on the volume of text and the complexity of the task, a small dot of the 1st font is added.

It is almost impossible to see it visually. But in order to run this process for all words, you need to write a macro, and this will require knowledge of the basics of VB.

  • Replacing Russian letters with Greek ones

Here's another interesting technique that not all copywriters use - many don't even know about its existence.

The fact is that systems do not yet recognize the Greek symbols micron and omega, which successfully replace the letter “o”, since they look almost the same, but for anti-plagiarism programs it is a completely different symbol. And just as replacing one letter in a passport makes you a different person, replacing one letter in each word can make the text unique to search engines and anti-plagiarism programs.

Quotes are verbatim excerpts from statements made by third parties or texts. Quotes are one of the types of direct speech in Russian.

We can use citations in research papers and essays to reinforce credibility own opinion by referring to more authoritative sources, which makes the linguistic work scientifically sound and emphasizes its originality.

In the Russian language, citation began to be used in 1820 and is still successfully used.

Citation methods

There are three main ways of citing in Russian.

1) Quote applies like direct speech. With this method of quoting, punctuation marks should be placed in the same way as in sentences with direct speech.

For example: Julius Caesar said: “It is better to die immediately than to spend your whole life waiting for death.” Or another option: “It is better to die immediately than to spend your whole life waiting for death,” as Julius Caesar said.

2) You can enter a quote and through indirect speech using the conjunction “what”. The quotation in such cases is also placed in quotation marks and written with a lowercase letter.

For example: F. Ranevskaya said that “loneliness is a state that there is no one to tell about.”

3) To introduce a quote into the text there can be special ones were used introductory words : as he spoke, according to words, as he wrote, as he believed, or without them, introductory words are replaced with punctuation marks or quotation marks.

For example: As Horace said, “Anger is a momentary madness.”

Or: L. Beethoven “knew no other signs of human superiority except kindness.”

4) Quoting Poems does not require auxiliary punctuation marks, in particular, quotation marks. It is enough to indicate the author and the title of the poem, which should be written on the red line. For example:

A. Griboyedov. "Woe from Wit"

What can Moscow provide me?

Today is a ball, and tomorrow is two.

Basic citation requirements

1. Quoted text must be placed in quotes and be identical to its original source. The lexical and grammatical form must fully correspond to the original.

2. Categorically It is forbidden to combine passages in one quote, which were taken from various cited sources. Each passage should be presented as a separate quotation.

3. If the expression is not quoted in full, but in an abbreviated or unfinished form (the quote is taken out of context as a separate phrase), instead of missing sentences or words ellipses should be placed in brackets. When abbreviating a quote, it is important to ensure the logical completeness of the expression.

4. In the Russian language it is prohibited to enter citations that takes up more than 30% of the total text volume. Excessive quoting not only makes your text formulaic, but also destroys its ability to be easily understood.

5. It is unacceptable to quote authors whose texts marked with a copyright symbol- ©. This mainly concerns scientific works and research articles. In this case, the option of modifying the text (transmitting the meaning of the fragment in your own words) with an optional link to the source is acceptable.

Quotation is material borrowed from other sources (direct use of text).

Verbatim quotations are enclosed in quotation marks; the link/footnote must indicate the exact page from which the phrase was taken.

Quoting “in your own words” is written without quotation marks; a link to a book/article is allowed without indicating the source page, however, with mention of the author’s surname and initials, title of the book/article, city, year of publication and publisher.

Currently, the highest demands are placed on the originality of dissertations. If the information for the thesis can be 20% - 30% borrowed, then in the candidate's thesis citations are allowed to be used in a maximum of 10% of the total volume of the research.

What is characteristic, while diploma and term papers are checked using the Antiplagiat.ru program, which “sees” every fourth downloaded word from the Internet, dissertations are tracked by Antiplagiat.university, where it is displayed every third word.

The point of these programs is to evaluate how well the material has been developed and “passed through” by the author of the dissertation. Currently, there is not a single program that would increase originality artificially, using hidden symbols - all these tricks are entered into the database and are easily recognized by the machine. Only when writing phrases “in your own words” is the text perceived as unique.

Figure 1 – Example of a short report from the Antiplagiarism.university program

The screenshot shows how the program highlights “plagiarism” in red, citations enclosed in quotation marks in green, and unique text in blue.

Thus, the program identifies plagiarism in the text (Figure 2):

Figure 2 – Example of a full report from the Antiplagiarism.university program

Figure 3 – Sources of plagiarism

By clicking on the chain, you can go to the site where the text phrase was taken from (Figure 4).

Figure 5 shows the recognition by the citation program (Figure 5):

Figure 5 – Quoting text

The program highlights citations in green. As can be seen in Figure 5, the program takes “tricky” phrases of the text as quoted material. Even if the anti-plagiarism program does not include the source from which the information is quoted, and you put it in quotation marks, the program will “take this into account” in any case and reduce the percentage of originality of your research.

The figure also contains a small piece of text that the program mistook for plagiarism:

Such shortcomings in the system’s operation should also be taken into account when writing a dissertation and try to paraphrase the entire text as much as possible in order to increase the uniqueness of your research.

Reviews

I live in Germany myself, and it was difficult for me to find an expert on my problem here. I was surprised that in your organization you can find such narrow specialists in the field of pedagogy. Not only did I like my work, but so did the entire committee. And some elements of the dissertation will be introduced into the teaching system of our Russian school in Dresden.

Oksana 01/12/2018

I would like to thank your company for its prompt and high-quality work. I didn’t expect that you could order work of such high quality through the Internet. It’s a pity that I didn’t know about your company earlier, otherwise I would have only used your services. I would especially like to thank the author, who helped me with my research on jurisprudence. Having a large amount of material for the dissertation, I thought it would be easy to compile it, but compilation is a lot of work, it’s probably even easier to write everything from scratch than to compile ready-made information from dozens of sources. Therefore, thank you very much for helping me deal with this burden!

Anastasia K. 12/31/2017

My review is more likely to be negative than positive. It really irritates me how much I have to write when my job has nothing to do with it. I spent a huge amount of time collecting information, but there were no results - either the font in the work is not the same, roughly speaking, or the list of references is not formatted correctly. Nonsense - the commission does not see the essence of the work behind this nonsense. The author took everything into the site and systematized it, wrote it according to GOST (sometimes it seems to me that it is this that is more important than the meaning of the work). In general, after a month I already had 4 articles of the Higher Attestation Commission in my hands, and after three - the entire candidate’s dissertation, which I myself had not been able to write for three years. Thank you very much! I'm amazed at your patience!

Fedor. 12/12/2017

I liked the work, everything was fine. What was especially noteworthy was that the research contained an author’s position that was not copied from the Internet or from books of hackneyed quotations of the same axioms - there was an individual author’s opinion, which spoke in my favor during the defense. I am also pleased with the efficiency, especially when you need to contact the author with some questions or clarifications. And, most importantly, everything is clearly recorded in correspondence with the performer. All the details, from the beginning of placing an order to sending it to me - everything is well thought out, so to speak, performed at the European level. I recommend it.

Oleg M. 11/02/2017

Very grateful site! Firstly, for the quality of work, secondly - for organizing the entire process of placing and fulfilling an order, thirdly - for the price (also important point, agree). I highly recommend ordering legal work here. I am especially embarrassed by modern anti-plagiarism, which seems impossible to bypass with quotations from legislation - but here the author showed all the wonders of vocabulary and syntax, which made it possible to achieve a high percentage of originality in the work in MGIMO anti-plagiarism.

Alexander. 10/19/2017

I try to contact this type of organization only through recommendations. Therefore, I ordered a job here, already knowing about all the advantages and positive aspects of the candidate5. I ordered the entire candidate’s dissertation at once, because I wanted the research to show a single author’s style and style, and secondly, it was cheaper. I was very pleased that all the employees of candidate5 always met me halfway, and most importantly, they were efficient.

Many thanks to the company candidate5! I first ordered an abstract from another company, but they sent me not just a bad abstract - in addition, they downloaded it entirely from the Internet! I was desperate because the idea of work scientific supervisor I liked it, but it was written, according to him, poorly. This time, having already read reviews about different organizations in advance, I finally decided to apply to the candidate5 and was right. The author “combed” my abstract, leaving the idea and general meaning, beautifully corrected all the shortcomings, and increased the originality. That’s why I already calmly ordered the candidate’s first chapter here. The chapter was also written as it should be. My good ones! I want to order the second chapter from you! Thank you, you really help!!!

At my job have candidate minimum very profitable - both career growth and salary increase. But I didn’t have a minute in my schedule to write the paper. I contacted candidate5. I was pleasantly surprised that the author supervised me from start to finish: she came up with a topic for me, drew up a plan, wrote the entire dissertation, the abstract, the speech, the review, etc. – in general, all inclusive.

I decided to write a review after the fact - after the defense. First of all, thank you for your time-consuming, painstaking work. Secondly, what I liked: my order was completed accurately on time, everything was done exactly as I had agreed with the author. Also important is the fact that I didn’t see any copywriting in the work – only live research. What I didn't like: I liked everything!

I can't stand bureaucratic red tape and paperwork. I was very pleased when I contacted kandidat5.ru: the author brought my work to fruition, sorted out the mess that I had mixed up in the research, added relevant information, prepared everything according to GOST, which would have generally taken several hours of my time. There were also disadvantages, but on my part: my mistake was that I did not immediately provide the entire list of my “wishes” - here it is better to discuss everything with the author in advance, so that there are no delays and tensions later. But here too the author showed patience. In general, their employees are very polite, responsive, and ready to answer all questions at any time, which is also important.

How to INCREASE THE ORIGINALITY of a text? 9 practical tips on “anti-plagiarism”

HOW TO INCREASE THE ORIGINALITY OF THE TEXT?
9 practical (legitimate and proven) tips on “anti-plagiarism”

TIP #1. Formalize all fragments of borrowing as citations

ALGORITHM:

4. Form all fragments as quotes.
CLUE. The Anti-Plagiarism system recognizes a fragment as a quotation if it is highlighted on both sides with quotation marks (Russian!!) and after the quotation marks there is a link to the source of literature in square brackets:
"...FRAGMENT..." [
COMMENT. As experience shows, if borrowing comes from a textbook or a well-known monograph, then the Anti-Plagiarism system is highly likely to recognize this fragment as a “white” citation and thereby increases the final score of originality.
If the borrowing comes from someone else’s dissertation, then this technique does not help much.

TIP #2. Convert interlinear bibliographic references to references to the List of References

COMMENT. This technique “kills” two birds with one stone in the pursuit of increasing originality.
1) The list of references is not included in the main text of the dissertation, which, in fact, is checked for “anti-plagiarism”, but the entire text of the footnotes is included.

And a bibliographic reference, especially to famous articles or books, is defined as borrowing. By removing these links from the text of the notes, we increase originality.
2) A link to a source of literature using a footnote, as experience shows, is not recognized by the Anti-Plagiarism system as a quotation. The quotation should be formatted:
"...FRAGMENT..." [
That is, refer to the number in the “Bibliography”

TIP #3. Convert large borrowings into dissertation appendices

REFERENCE. “Anti-plagiarism” checks the main text of the dissertation, which begins with the first words of the Introduction and ends with the last words of the Conclusion.

The list of references and appendices are not included in the main text.
COMMENT: If a large fragment of borrowing is included in the Appendix (and there can be any number of Appendixes to the Dissertation), then we thereby remove the borrowing from the main text of the dissertation, and, accordingly, increase originality.

TIP #4. Provide all illustrative material as images

COMMENT. Only the main text of the dissertation is checked for anti-plagiarism, which does not include illustrative material.
The illustrative material of the dissertation includes: tables, formulas, drawings, diagrams.
Therefore, if text from tables/diagrams/figures is perceived by the Anti-Plagiarism system as borrowing, then it makes sense to provide them as an image.
At the same time, it is undesirable to obviously transform the text in the tables into drawings.
We recommend editing the text in the table so that it differs from the regular text of the dissertation:
(1) reduce the size (instead of 14 pt, use 12 pt)
(2) change the font (instead of Times New Roman, take Georgia or Courier New or Calibri),
(3) reduce line spacing (from one and a half to single)

WARNING: Figure/table captions should NOT be included in the image. They relate to the text of the dissertation!

COMMENT. Literature review, links to results of other researchers, etc. is often perceived by the Anti-Plagiarism system as borrowing.
If you give this information in tabular form, and design the table as a picture, you can increase originality.
WARNING: Just don't use this technique on regular text! ALGORITHM:
1. Send us your text.
2. We will check using the Anti-Plagiarism system.
3. We will send you a “colorized” text, where all fragments of borrowings are highlighted.
4. Replace all large fragments of borrowing 1-2 with your own sentences.
This technique will not only increase originality, but also make the text itself clearer and clearer to understand.
Don’t be afraid to shorten your dissertation, especially other people’s paragraphs.
The Higher Attestation Commission only gives recommendations regarding the upper limit of a dissertation (150 pages for a candidate’s thesis, 300 pages for a doctoral dissertation), but says nothing about the minimum volume.
Brevity is the sister of talent!
And if you “got” beyond the limits recommended by the Higher Attestation Commission, then even more so, “truncating” the text is useful and beneficial! COMMENT. The Anti-Plagiarism system operates completely formally - it only looks for LITERAL matches of texts.
By rewriting a fragment of borrowing in your own words, you can easily increase originality.
It's labor-intensive, of course.
However, this skill, as experience shows, is a good help in life:
1) when you write reviews on your dissertation (few people now write reviews on other people’s dissertations), you will have to write the same thing several times in different words;
2) when writing website content, the process of rewriting texts in your own words is called rewriting, and there are always orders for it.

TIP #8. Replace all relatively stable expressions with abbreviations

ALGORITHM:
When a term with the words (hereinafter - ...) first appears, enter the abbreviation.
Example. ... Breaking the rules fire safety(hereinafter referred to as NPPB)...
And everywhere in the text we use the entered abbreviation (except for chapter/paragraph headings!)
All entered abbreviations are summarized in a list, which, according to GOST, is called LIST OF ABBREVIATIONS AND CONVENTIONS
and is located in the text of the dissertation before REFERENCES
Example
LIST OF ABBREVIATIONS AND CONVENTIONS
...
NPPB - violation of fire safety rules
NTPB - violation of fire safety requirements
UPLiIN - destruction or damage to forests and other plantings

TIP #9. Enter your own abbreviations for long titles of official documents

ALGORITHM:
When the full title of the document with the words (hereinafter - ...) appears for the first time, enter your own abbreviation.
For example: ... Resolution of the Plenum of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation dated July 5, 2002 “On judicial practice in cases of violation of fire safety rules, destruction or damage to property by arson or as a result of careless handling of fire”
(hereinafter referred to as the Decree of the PVS of the Russian Federation dated 07/05/2002)

or...
(hereinafter - Resolution of the RF PVS on NPPB)
And throughout the text we use the entered abbreviation
This abbreviation adds to the LIST OF ABBREVIATIONS AND CONVENTIONS

PRICE

If you do not have the strength or desire to improve the originality of the text yourself,

then we can help you.

Prices, based on labor intensity, are for text PhD thesis:
a) promotion by 1-5% costs 3 tr;
b) increase by 5-10% costs 7 tr;
c) increase by 10-15% costs 12 tr;
d) increase by 15-20% costs 18 tr.
e) increase by 20-25% costs 25 tr.
e) increase by 25-30% costs 33 tr.
Then, as experience shows, labor intensity increases sharply.
Increasing originality by more than 30% already requires a much deeper (semantic) processing of the text.

Average volume of texts doctoral dissertations more than 2 times the average volume of the text of a candidate's dissertation, so prices for increasing originality for doctoral dissertations 2 times higher.

When composing and formatting text in Word, the question sometimes arises: how to highlight a quote in the text? The answer to this is based on two levels at once.

In punctuation rules and in the tools of Word itself.

After all, highlighting a quote is far from the simplest action and it must be done not only correctly, but also competently. The office suite itself can only tell you that everything needs to be done correctly. But it won’t do this for the user.

If the quote option appears on the forums (i.e., quoting), then trying to register this CD in Word is not the best idea. The result is simply a separate set of characters. So what should you do?

Using Rules

Well, you can do everything manually. Yes, it is a little difficult and you need to remember correctly what to do and how to do it. The rules remain unchanged and these same rules must be followed. And there were quite a lot of them upon closer examination. The first option when creating a quote is to use the following construction:

Bryusov wrote: “Alexander will not hear the arguments of the violent diadochi.”

The quote itself is highlighted with quotation marks. The required text, which belongs to the author, is enclosed in quotation marks. This is the emphasis when quoting. In principle, this is how everyone is used to highlighting quotes. But let's look at the example in more detail.

If we use the phrase itself, “Alexander will not hear the arguments of the violent diadochi,” then the quote is simply closed in quotation marks. Why is there a colon here? In this case, a reference to the author himself is used. But this reference comes before the quote itself, so there is a colon.

What if the author is mentioned after the quotation? “Alexander will not hear the arguments of the violent diadochi,” it is written in Bryusov’s poem. The quoted text takes on this form. That is, after it, when the quotes are closed, a dash is placed. A bit like the direct speech rule, but differs in the absence of a dash at the beginning. An incorrect quotation would be:

- Alexander will not hear the arguments of the violent diadochi. - said Bryusov.

This structure of the text is suitable for direct speech, but not for quotation. Quotes are highlighted with quotation marks.

What if the quote precedes the text? Are any punctuation marks needed? The unequivocal answer is that they are needed. But only if they were added by the author. And what does the quotation become in this case? Epigraph.

They put forward their own demands on him. We will not dwell on them. Because we are more interested in how to highlight a quote in Word text.

Using Word to highlight quotes

The following text is intended for correctly highlighting quotes in a text editor. And from the theoretical part of writing literacy we move on to the practical. How to do this or that action.

The text is usually placed on the right side of the document. Subject to all citation rules. By the way, not all of them are listed above. This is a fairly simple action that requires minimal effort from the user.

  1. We take the text itself and select it.
  2. In the paragraph section we find the symbol marked in red. It corresponds to the “Align Right” function.
  3. Click on this symbol and as a result the text moves in the indicated direction.

Note: A similar effect can be achieved using the key combination “Ctrl+R”. After all, almost every action in the editor can be done using hotkeys.

This method has one drawback. If the quote is too long, it will reach the left edge of the page. Although according to generally accepted rules it should go no further than the middle (or even a third) of the sheet. Therefore, the following method will also come in handy.

Move a quote using a ruler

A good option for highlighting quotes in the text is a ruler. This tool is designed to change the position of text on a page. It works with already typed text and text that will be typed.

The trick is to highlight the typed fragments, and not change the settings for the entire sheet at once. You can read more about the line in a separate article.

Sequence of actions:

  1. Select the required text.
  2. Above the text you can see a tool called "Ruler".
  3. Left-click on the top slider or both. And we drag it to the required distance.
  4. The dotted line tells you where the text will be shifted.

Using a ruler, you can limit the space occupied by text on a page. This will make the quote stand out. Works not only in front of text. But also when adding a quote to the text itself.

It should be remembered that if a quotation is indented, then there is no need to highlight it with quotation marks. You just need to indicate the author or leave only the text of the quote.

Highlighting quotes with quotation marks and other useful tools

The method of highlighting quoted text with quotation marks is very simple. After all, the quote character can be obtained in several ways:

  1. Hold “Shift” and press the “2” button. Thus, the following quotation marks are placed: “”. The only thing to remember is that if you do not close the quotes, then the next time you enter them they will already be closed. The editor himself suggests that the closing character may have been missed.
  2. Change layout to English language. Hold down the “Shift” button and press the button on the keyboard that corresponds to the Russian “E”. Simply put, type a capital “E” in the English layout. This produces the following characters: “”. The opening and closing rule also applies here.
  3. Any of these characters can be obtained through insertion. To do this you will need:
    • go to the “Insert” section at the top of the document;
    • select “Symbol”;
    • select “Other symbols” and find the required quotes in the list;
    • Click "Insert".

After this, the selected quotation marks will appear in the text.

The latter method requires knowledge of the theoretical part of Word rather than any useful skills. Each character has its own encoding. It is entered while holding down the “Alt” button.

  • " - "0171";
  • "-"0187";
  • „ – “0132”;
  • “ – “0147”;
  • ” – “0148”.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The symbol will not appear until Alt is released. And what is much more important is that you need to type numbers on the numeric keypad. When the “Num Lock” key is turned on (the corresponding indicator will light up).

This method is the most difficult, which is why it is described at the end. But now, taking into account all the ways to insert and highlight a quote in a document, it will not be so difficult.
